The nation wide popularity of television has made its way from the cities and small towns to some of the remotest villages of the Himalayas. Like people here in Langza village at an altitude of 14,435ft use solar inverters to connect their televisions because of the irregular electricity.

In a home stay in Langza, as we rested after cycling up from Kaza in the kitchen of our friendly host, we were really surprised to see a television. The naughty kid Tenzin who was really happy to see us, joyfully switched on the television with a satellite set top box attached to it and on the call of her mother to finish her home work, picked up a workbook and kept it on her lap and started watching some random television series. Her mother and elder sister were soon lost in the spell of television. No one uttered one single word for the next one hour.
